When I was a young child-around age 4-my dad returned from serving in Korea. I sang "Oh My Papa" to him. When I see him in Heaven, I will sing it again. Thanks for sharing.

JoanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36562133.post-67980985363779812462015-01-21T15:31:55.170-05:002015-01-21T15:31:55.170-05:00A pretty interesting note is that Chinese bishops ...A pretty interesting note is that Chinese bishops often do not use a green hat, but instead will wear a violet or black hat with a cross between the galero and the shield.

This is because "wearing a green hat" is a Chinese euphemism for being a cuckold.braakhttp://www.swordofsavonarola.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36562133.post-655999010336269862014-08-04T21:01:00.830-05:002014-08-04T21:01:00.830-05:00Iam a young priest and new pastor of a parish in t...Iam a young priest and new pastor of a parish in the middle of nowhere. I'm so unhappy that I have little support from the diocese. It seems that the diocese only cares about assessments and not the priest. I just don't understand why bishops throw men into areas that's not the right fit. For example, .l m not a country person and said so many times but still the bishop throws me into a parish in the middle of nowhere and I feel depressed, alone, and isolated. I love saying mass and helping people find God. I just hate the country area (please no offense to anyone that is from the country)

I inherited a parish that requires lots of work, a former pastor that gave up on people and was depressed, and some of the most crazy people, so it seems, that exists in a parish. I spoke my concerns and still left here to dry by the diocese. If the church wants happy priests they need to learn to match gifts and talents to parishes rather than cut and paste. So I disagree that priests are fully happy... Many younger priests like me feel used and overworked with things that shouldn't matter. All we want to do is the sacramental and teach the catholic faith. Thanks for your article Father. Well written. A beautiful and moving tribute to your mom-- both her life in general, and essentially the marriage that nurtured you and your brothers, and also your vocation to the priesthood: "They lived modestly and sometimes frugally just to make ends meet but there was always plenty of food and lots of love and faith in our house"-- now that just says so, so much.

The part about your trips and excursions together with your mom is lovely-- lately, I've been wondering more and more about what it would be like to combine vacation with retreat and pilgrimage.

a week before Thanksgiving, I got her to see the three Irish Priest tenors sing in Harrisburg.

Wonderful! I remember that there was a spiritual retreat for priests at the beginning of Pope Francis's pontificate that the Vatican uploaded to YouTube. Among the music was a performance by The Priests. What amused me, though, was that everybody was supposed to be changing "Veni, Creator Spiritus"-- and that's indeed the way they all started out. But once it became clear to all in the room that The Priests were present, singing with them, everybody else shut up! It is so important for those who devote themselves to God's work and God's people to form and maintain close relationships. I would like to see our Bishops try to place Archdiocesan priests close to their families. It is always nice to go home and visit! Monsignor Trigilio, I enjoy watching the humorous "bantering" that goes on between you and Father Ken on your EWTN show. Due to the shortage of priest even we as religious often live alone in poor parishes and lonely mission stations as a sacrifice for the good of the Church. But as religious we belong to our Religious family and as OMI we belong to a district community as well as a province of brotherhood and have our charism. At the sametime we belong to the presbyterate of the Diocese and meet with clergy at Deanery and other encounters and indeed it is imperative to have close brother/friends in the clergy.
I think the important thing is to use time effectively and to live the priestly religious life of a regular daily way of life.
I suggest the following to Brother priests the centre of the day is the Holy Mass and to pray with the people eg the daily rosary. Due to our heavt work load I suggest as a means the following. To be faithful to a morning hour of prayer before the tabernacle with Our lady daily and to pray ones personal prayers; lauds and meditation andthen to pray the Office before Midday. Pop in often to make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament during the day and to stop midday with a particular examen. Then in the evening to spend an hour before the Tabernacle with Our lady and to pray Vespers and precede the Office of Readings and to make adoration and Oraison and to do some scripture and spiritual reading. Then during the day to speak to Jesus in the heart all the time and to live in His presence and in the car one can pray many rosaries or chaplets.
Then at night after meetings etc to keep up to date studying and doing desk work and then Compline and to read a good book before retiring. After all we are with people all the day till late at night. And it is good to have a dog or more.
A disciplined use of time and regular daily life does not give one much time to be overcome by the silence of loneliness and there is a huge difference between loneliness and being alone with the Alone. It is also good to visit Brother priests for lunch and to invite priests for a meal. And even in those moments of loneliness, to offer these in reparation for widows and single peole and the marginalised.
I learnt this as a young priest when on one occasion I was so lonely and went to visit other priests who were busy and then went to family friends who were out; tried a couple of movies that were all full. I came home and popped in to the Chapel and the Lord kind of said to me - you ran all over restless and lonely and all the time I was here, spend time with Me.
This is my sharing and I hope it can assist any Brother priest under the burden of loneliness.
In Jesus and Mary
Fr. Do a WORD SEARCH in the ACTUAL DOCUMENT issued by Pope Francis and you will NOT find the word "capitalism" or even "capital" once. Yes, not once! But, what you WILL find is the term "unbridled CONSUMERISM", several times. Capitalism and consumerism are two very different things, of course: the former an economic model; the latter a human obsession with the possession and consumption of material goods- something that occurs within ALL economic models.
