I know a man who's family came from the New Orleans area. He told me of a story that one of his ancestors was a Sister of some order there during the Battle of New Orleans in 1812, and it looked like they were going to be sacked ( I don't remember by who, probably the Brits) so they grabbed a statue of the Virgin Mary holding her Divine Son, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, brought to the window where they could see the soldiers and said that if She protected them they would spread a devotion to Her. Well she did and, nearly 2 centuries later, the great-great-grandnephew of that Sister handed me this prayer card which he hands out every hurricane season. (This story is as told to me, my apologies for any inaccuracies.)
"Our Father in Heaven,
through the powerful Intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Spare us from all harm during this hurricane season and protect us and our homes from all disasters of nature.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Amen."
I am borrowing Baron Koff prayer for my blog as we will be praying too.
